A report from a CEPA project in Slovenia (21/12/06)

Good afternoon everyone:

There’s an excellent report just posted on our web site on the completion of a Ramsar SGF (Small Grants Fund) project in Slovenia. This CEPA-focused project brought together the management authorities of Škocjan Caves Park (a Ramsar site) and the Notranjska Regional Park (which includes the Lake Cerknica Ramsar site) to build awareness about the importance of water in Slovenia’s karst wetlands.

These two authorities have developed an educational programme bringing together the students and teachers from eight primary schools on biodiversity and sustainable development issues, and produced a joint leaflet on the two parks, as well as worksheets for the schoolchildren and technical guidelines for their teachers.

They have also developed a five-year CEPA strategy (following the Ramsar CEPA Programme) to direct their programme for continued cooperation.

Overall the project benefited greatly from the close cooperation between the Ramsar focal point in Slovenia, Gordana Beltram, the different authorities, and, beyond the Slovenian border, with Italian schools.

Read the full details here http://www.ramsar.org/sgf/sgf_rpts_slovenia2.htm where you will find links to the materials mentioned above.

And that's it for the CEPA list for the year. For those of you celebrating - Merry Christmas/ Happy New Year/ Happy Holidays - and for those of you still working in wetlands or chained to your desks and computer screens, I’ll be back in my chains in January.

Best regards, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
