A new leaflet on wetlands for schools AND our WWD materials launched on the web (10/10/08)

Greetings CEPA list members:

My apologies for the long silence on the CEPA list. I haven’t gone on leave, I’m not at a meeting, and I’m not sick – just really busy with COP10 preparations! I have two related items of news.

1. First, we have a wonderful new leaflet targeted at children in schools around two Ramsar Sites in Argentina, Humedales Chaco and Jaaukanigás. This colourful and well illustrated leaflet looks at wetlands, what they are, how they work, the many ways we depend upon them, what it takes to manage wetlands well as well as introducing Ramsar sites and the Convention. Download the leaflet here www.ramsar.org/outreach_materials_fundacionproteger_argentina.pdf

This leaflet has been produced under the Ecole de l’eau partnership between Ramsar and Evian, more specifically under one of the three project sites currently being funded under the partnership. You can read more about the project site from our Danone/Evian officer’s report here www.ramsar.org/evian_ecole_argentina.htm  and find out more about all the projects currently being funded under the partnership here

 www.evian-ecolesdeleau.fr/ .

2. Now the link with this second news item. All the illustrations in the leaflet have been done by Patricia Rodelli from Argentina. With the help of the NGO Proteger, we commissioned Patricia (“Pattie”) to produce some comic strips for us on our World Wetlands Day slogan Upstream-Downstream: wetlands connect us all. Our WWD materials are now ready and are being packed and posted as I write. Our webmaster has spent much of today making all the materials, including Pattie's comic strips, available on our web site here www.ramsar.org/wwd/9/wwd2009_index.htm. So please have a look. Hope you like ‘em!

With best regards, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
