An interactive online resource for children from Australia (01/10/07)

Greetings everyone:

Following a recent email exchange with Bronwen Wicks, a key communications contact in Australia's Ramsar Administrative Authority, I found myself perusing their impressive online wetlands publication list. While there are a number of publications of interest, I spent some time on one in particular - an interactive online resource for schoolchildren called Explore Our Wetlands. You can try this out here . I found that it is a little slow to load, but it's worth being patient because the overall result is an interesting resource that gives a simple yet excellent overview of the relationship between inland and coastal wetlands and the notion of the connectivity of wetlands - what you do in one place has implications in other parts of the system. Sponsored by the Australian Government’s Department of Environment and Heritage (wherein sits our Ramsar Admin. Authority) and developed by the Great Barrier Reef Authority, its main purpose is to enhance the understanding and awareness of the community of the role of wetlands within the Great Barrier Reef catchment area.

For information on the wetlands publication list in general look here.

Finally, if any of you have other interactive materials on wetlands to share with the list, please let me know. I’ve updated the teaching materials web page with this new link and would be happy to update with other materials list members have available.

With best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
