Biofuels - some useful links (11/01/08)

Good morning CEPA people:

Biofuels is something of a hot topic in the environmental world, offering a desirable renewable energy supply but with a downside that is of concern to many. Worries have already been expressed in many fora about the temptation to convert natural floodplains, peatlands and other important natural habitats to biofuel production as well concerns over the conversion to biofuel production competing with food production thus exacerbating food supply issues in developing countries.

To help keep readers well informed on this complex issue, the science and development network (SciDev.Net), an online resource providing reliable information about science and technology for the developing world, has helpfully provided an editorial article on biofuels and four ‘opinion’ and two ‘feature’ articles from various writers covering the breadth of opinion in this challenging area.

The web page also provides links to some background reading and links to relevant organizations. Here’s the link -sorry it is so long! http://www.scidev.net/dossiers/index.cfm?fuseaction=specifictopics&dossier=4&topic=199&CFID=2333216&CFTOKEN=45924744.

With best weekend wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
