Debris in the marine environment - a web resource (01/02/08)
Greetings everyone:
I'm posting this on the eve of World Wetlands Day when I'm sure many of you are busy preparing for the weekend! We have now started our WWD reporting page but don't worry if you have sent information and it is not yet on the web - it's coming.
Today's message is really about an excellent web site with good resources for download - it's all about marine debris and its effect on the marine ecosystem. Developed by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) in the USA, the site is designed to help identify, reduce, and prevent debris in the marine environment. The section on resources addresses four key target groups (beachgoers, fishers, boat/marina owners, and students/educators) and provides good information on what to do and what not to do. And there's lots more - have a look at their photo gallery with many images all available for download at low and high resolution, and their ongoing projects and funding opportunities. Start here http://marinedebris.noaa.gov/about/welcome.html.
With best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat
