The Danube River Basin Stakeholder Conference (23/05/05)

Good morning everyone:

Here's a message passed on to me by the Ramsar CEPA Government Focal Point from Austria, Gerhard Sigmund. It's about an up-coming meeting of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR). The ICPDR was set up to assist in the implementation of the Danube River Protection Convention and it strongly encourages public participation in the assessment and governance of environmental measures and in the decision making processes in the 13 Danube river basin countries, cooperating effectively with regional and international organizations, NGOs and the scientific community. You can read more about the ICPDR here http://www.icpdr.org and about their annual Danube Day here http://www.danubeday.org as well as finding out more about their upcoming Stakeholder Conference below.

Best wishes, Sandra Hails, Ramsar Secretariat

Dear all,

please be informed that the preparation for the Danube River Basin Stakeholder Conference, as an integral part of the celebrations of Danube Day 2005 are proceeding.

The Conference, which is planned for June 28-29 in Budapest (Hungary), is an important element of the ICPDR Public Participation activities and crucial for the involvement of the interested public in the implementation of the EU Waterframework Directive on the basin-wide level.

A specific conference website has been developed. You can find all relevant information there. Please visit: http://www.ecologic-events.de/danube/en/index.htm

We would also like to encourage you to promote this important conference and to possibly link your websites with the conference site.

If there are questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
