News from IUCN's World Congress in Bangkok (25/11/04)

Two important news items from IUCN's World Conservation Congress in Bangkok:

1. The launching of a new partnership between IUCN and UNESCO to foster leadership in education for sustainable development and evaluate the United Nations Decade as a process of learning. The Chair of IUCN's Commission on Education and Communication, Denise Hamú, noted "We need to accelerate the process of learning for change towards sustainability. It is not enough to have awareness, we need to engage people to think critically about how we are managing our lives, societies and resources", adding, "We need to measure how well we are progressing". Could have some useful outputs for many CEPA people.

2. The launching of the World Conservation Learning Network - a global partnership, engaging universities, other higher education institutions and the conservation, environment and development community, to build the capacity of professionals to meet conservation and sustainable development goals. The network will serve as a clearing house of quality short courses, teaching methods and develop new courses to fill the gaps so that end users can readily find the courses they need.
