Ramsar Convention and the University of Senghor, Alexandria (Egypt): Joint Action
Since 1st May 2012, twelve students from the University of Senghor of Alexandria (Egypt) are attending a course on wetlands issues in several Francophone African countries. This course is organised through a joint action between the Department of the Environment at the University of Senghor and the Ramsar Convention African Desk.
Students will spend three months with the Ramsar Administrative Authorities to adapt and make preliminary tests on CIFOR’s indicators for forest sustainable management on African Wetlands.
The students’ tasks will be to:
1. Discuss with the head of Ramsar Administrative Authority to define an additional theme for the internship programme
2. Adapt and test CIFOR’s indicators on African wetlands
3. Write a dissertation to be defended at the University of Senghor.
Academically, students will be supervised by Dr. Martin Yelkouni, Director of the Department of Environment, Senghor University of Alexandria (Egypt), and Dr. Paul Ouedraogo, Senior Advisor for Africa, Ramsar Convention Secretariat.
This joint action is financially (travel and subsistence of trainees) supported by the University of Senghor.
