Celebrations for the listing of Vietnam’s 3rd Ramsar Site
On 5 June 2011, a ceremony was held in Bac Kan Provincial town, Viet Nam for the listing of Ba Be National Park as the country’s 3rd Ramsar Site. The event was organised as part of the celebrations for World Environmental Day and the International Year of Forest 2011, and was jointly organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Bac Kan Provincial People’s Committee.

Speeches were given by HE Dr Pham Khoi Nguyen (Minister of Natural Resources and Environment), HE Dr Hua Duc Nhi (Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development), and HE Dr Hoang Ngoc Duong (Chairman of Bac Kan Provincial People’s Committee). The speeches emphasized the important role of forests in economic development and environmental protection, as well as the need for wetland conservation and wise use and the importance of the Ba Be Ramsar Site.
During the event, IUCN Vietnam delivered a letter of congratulations for the listing of the Ba Be Lake Ramsar Site on behalf of the Ramsar Secretariat. On the same day, Dr Bui Cach Tuyen (Vice-Minister of MoNRE) handed over the Ramsar Site Certificate for Ba Be National Park to Mr Nong The Dien, Director of Ba Be National Park.

Apart from the Ba Be National Park, the other two Ramsar Sites in Vietnam are Xuan Thuy National Park and Bau Sau in Cat Tien National Park. A full description of these sites is available here.
