The Klagenfurt Days of Protected Areas

The Klagenfurt University’s Master-of-Science (M.Sc.) programme “Management of Protected Areas”, in cooperation with the E.C.O. Institute of Ecology, organized a 3-day event at Klagenfurt University from 24th to 26th of June 2009.

It included a field trip on the theme “Protected areas and public transport” organized by ÖBB, the Austrian railway company in the Natura 2000 site Obere Drau and the national park Hohe Tauern. The second day was dedicated to conferences on protected areas, climate change and public transport. The Ramsar Secretariat, represented by Alexia Dufour, attended the 8th meeting of the International Advisory Board of the M.Sc., organized the same day, and this was followed by a fruitful debate on innovation in protected areas and the possibility to create an International Award in that field. On the last day, students of the second run of the programme (2007-2009) presented their master theses.

On this occasion, the university also launched a new book series “Proceedings in the Management of Protected Areas”, in which the students of the programme 2005-2007 present their theses. Please find the detailed information in their latest newsletter.
