BirdLife International is a global Partnership of conservation organisations that strives to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity, working with people towards sustainability in the use of natural resources. The BirdLife International Global Secretariat, based in Cambridge, supports over 100 conservation Partner NGOs that make up the BirdLife Partnership, by providing appropriate guidance, technical support and training.

The Fundraising Officer's job will predominately be to work with the Programme Development Manager to help identify and secure funding for the BirdLife Secretariat (both UK and overseas) and NGO Partners (as appropriate). The job will involve working with, and helping to meet, the funding needs of the BirdLife Secretariat's science and conservation work in every region of the world and working with very large and very small BirdLife Partners. There is considerable scope within this job to learn new skills and for career development.

Overall Purpose of the job
To work as part of a team of fundraising staff with the objective of increasing the level of funding to meet the needs for the BirdLife Secretariat and wider conservation programme needs. The Fundraising Officer will work under the guidance and support of the Programme Development Manager and their primary focus will be on securing funding from institutional sources.

Main duties

  • Donor identification, research and data management
  • Proposal writing and packaging
  • Donor relations and management
  • General support to the development team (as required)

Education, skills and special requirements
We are looking for an individual who is committed to international conservation, who enjoys a challenge and who is keen to learn and develop their fundraising skills further. Educated to a degree level (preferably in a conservation field) the applicant will have at least one year of fundraising experience and will be able to work as part of a team but also with minimal supervision and will work well under pressure. The applicant will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, good organisational skills and will be IT literate and will have a "can do" attitude.

Salary: GBP 20.5-21.5k (+12% Pension)
