Ramsar / MedWet call for film entries (11/01/05)

Hello everyone:

The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and its Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative are calling for entries for the Ramsar /MedWet Award for films on water and wetlands. The Ramsar / MedWet Award is given in the ecofilms Festival, 21 - 26 June 2005, Rhodes, Greece.

A Jury Panel composed of experts from the Ramsar Convention Secretariat and MedWet, as well as professionals from the cinema industry, bestow the Award accompanied by a prize of €4.000 (four thousand euro) provided by the two sponsors. The deadline for submission of entries for the 2005 awards is 1st March. You can read more about the award and access the entry form here http://www.ecofilms.gr/01.1.ecofilms_call_en.htm. Please note that films submitted must be in English or have English sub-titles.

Established in 2004, the Ramsar / MedWet Award was inaugurated in Ecocinema 2004, an international environmental film festival held in Rhodes, Greece. The first recipient of the Ramsar / MedWet Award 'Aamakaar Turtle People' by Surabhi Sharma, is the account of a community striving to protect the nesting grounds of turtles while sand-mining threatens to wash away the coast on which their village stands. You can see the details of entries from 2004 in all categories here http://www.ecofilms.gr/03.1.films_en.asp.

The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, signed in the city of Ramsar, Iran in 1971, provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. The Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative of the Ramsar Convention (MedWet) is a long-term collaborative initiative for the conservation of Mediterranean wetlands.
