Día Mundial de los Humedales 2004 - Venezuela
Pictures of Wetland Activities in Boca de Río, Venezuela
We received the materials for the celebration of World Wetlands Day a bit late, but still, we continued with activities in the University, doing lectures for our classmates. I'm happy to inform that our class group decided to perform a series of activities for children at a close-by school of Peninsula de Macanao, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela. The students from the Conservation of Marine Organism Class made several projects, including puppets, theater plays, and games which were shown to children from preschool to 6th grade. They were very excited and we were all very pleased. One puppet show dealt with the importance of the marine communitites in a RAMSAR area in Venezuela, Laguna de La Restinga. Another group made an interactive story about Thalassias and Mangroves. And a third group made a hilarous play about fishermen and coral reefs. We all agreed that we made a mark on the children :).
But, what really has us excited is that the community heard of our actions in the rural school, and we have been getting calls from everywhere to repeat the plays and stories. Recently we went to an Institution Celebration and performed in front of almost 60 kids. This experience has been the best for all of us, and the students from Boca de Río, University of Oriente, School of Applied Sea Sciences thank you for the materials sent.
I am enclosing a few pictures of our acts at the schools, the lectures in the university and a poster we made.
Thank you very much
Marine Biology Students from Conservation Class.
