World Wetlands Day 2002: United Kingdom

"Thank you for the material you sent through. Sue Holmes and Valerie Gilbert, the organisers of Norton Wildlife Watch, made good use of it in working with the children. The attached photos show some of the less camera-shy members learning about the truly international nature of wetlands. The Web sites http://www.ruralarts.co.uk/nortonwlw.html and http://www.yorkshire-wildlife-trust.org.uk/norton_watch_flood_story.htm give a little more information about the group and the recent floods. Our local Norton wildlife watch group in North Yorkshire, England, are holding meetings to discuss wetlands in a worldwide context -- the group is usually up to twenty children aged between 7 and 15 and a few adults in support - and therefore we are very grateful for the WWD material. We have a special interest in wetlands in that our small local wetland Norton Ings, which has been used for many years as a teaching resource, is shortly to be dramatically changed due to the construction of flood defences."
