Wetland sustainable management seminar set for Argentina

Argentina: International Seminar on Wetland Sustainable Management
Dear Ramsar Forum members,
Fundación PROTEGER-Amigos de la Tierra, Argentina, informs you all Ramsar Forum about the International Seminar on Wetlands Sustainable Management in Latin America and the International Symposium on Ecotourism and Wetlands, to take place in Paraná, Argentina, 25th - 27th September 2003.
It´s expected the attendance of 300 participants, among them International and National official authorities, including the presence of Margarita Astrálaga, Regional Coordinator for the Americas, Ramsar Convention.
Both events will be useful to share studies, experiences and points of view from researchers, social stakeholders, political decision makers, legislators and politicians from more than twenty countries, among them Uruguay, Chile, Brasil, Perú, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, England and Cameroon. We shall get recommendations allowing sustainable management plans on wetlands. Also including ecotourism as a conservation tool and for the generation of job alternatives.
These activities are intended to create a field of discussion on the sustainable management of wetlands and its resources, mainly on Latin American fluvial wetlands.
We will be dealing with sustainable wetlands keys; participatory management; research and experiencies on wise use of wetlands resources; economic valuation; added value and products commercialization; Politics and legislation on integrated management of wetlands and biodiversity conservation; and Ecoturism as a conservation tool for wetlands.
The Seminar and the Symposium will offer the oportunity to build synergy among the different stakeholders, and the interested sectors in the sustainable management of wetlands in Latin America -- Researchers, technicians, fisherfolks, legislators, political decision makers, teachers, advanced students, NGOs and SCOs National and International, and the private sector.
In addition, some organizations of wetland users resources and specialists groups, will organize meetings and workshops to discuss themes of particular interests and get specific recommendations.
Both events are supported by Wetlands International, hosted by among others the Ramsar Convention, WWF, IUCN, Ríos Vivos, Argentina Federation Amigos de la Tierra, Avina Fundation, the National Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development, National Park Administration, Cofema-Regional NEA, the Institute of Touristic Development of Entre Ríos, the Secretary of State of Production of Entre Ríos and the Universidad Nacional del Litoral.
