World Wetlands Day 2001: Australia
I am writing on behalf of Parks Victoria in Australia to request the use of the poster set referred to on the Ramsar Convention Bureau's website.
Parks Victoria, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and with funding from the National Wetlands Program of Environment Australia, is launching a strategic planning framework for all of Victoria's Ramsar sites. The launch will take place on World Wetlands Day, 2 February, at the Coolart wetlands and homestead, adjacent to the Western Port Ramsar site.
The strategic framework consists of a statewide directions statement (ie. policy document) complemented by strategic management plans for each of Victoria's 10 Ramsar sites. Unlike other management planning processes previously undertaken in Australia, the Victorian example has adopted the wetlands risk assessment methodology tabled at the COP7 in May 1999. In a nutshell, the resulting framework will provide clear direction to government agencies, industry and the community to steer their efforts towards priority risks at both the statewide and site level. It also provides the basis for carrying out works to benefit ecological character at Ramsar sites using an integrated management approach.
As project manager, I will be involved in a large number of presentations to stakeholders and the general community over the next 12 months. It would be appropriate, not to mention highly desirable, if I could have access to such a wonderful backdrop as the eight Ramsar posters shown on the website. Not only does it offer a suitably attractive visual reference, but it importantly provides the international context that this project is promoting.
I look forward to sending you regular updates of the project's progress, and I would be more than happy to send you a copy of the relevant documents as they are released. Should we be successful in obtaining the posters, I will also send images of the display "in action" at events such as World Wetlands Day at Western Port, and various other Ramsar-related events throughout the year.
I would very much appreciate your assistance.
Happy World Wetlands Day!!
