Notification 2011/13: Change in the dates of 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties, Bucharest, Romania, 6-13 July 2012

27/11/2012

The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971) presents its compliments to the Permanent Mission of ----- and has the honour to refer to the following:

The UN Conference on Sustainable Development has recently announced a change in the dates of the RIO+20 meeting in 2012 which will now take place from 20-22 June. This has serious implications for Ramsar's 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention (Ramsar COP11), originally scheduled from 19-26 June 2012.

In recent days the Romanian Government, the Ramsar Secretariat and the Chair of Standing Committee have been in contact regarding this new situation. Thanks to the swift action of the Romanian Government the Secretariat, with the agreement of the Standing Committee Chair, is now pleased to announce that it has been possible to re-schedule COP11 which will now take place from 6-13 July 2012.

Please note that the 44th Meeting of the Standing Committee (SC44) will now take place on 4th July, Regional meetings on the 5th and 6th July and the Opening Ceremony on 6th July. A re-drafted provisional agenda reflecting these changes will be made available on the Convention's web site.

The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands respectfully requests that the content of the present Note be communicated to the competent national authorities and avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Permanent Mission of ----- the assurance of its highest consideration.
