Notification 2011/12: Financing of delegate attendance at Ramsar COP11

24/11/2011

The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971) presents its compliments to the Permanent Mission of ----- and has the honour to refer to the following:

The 11th meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention (COP11) will be held in Bucharest, Romania, in June 2012. Contracting Parties will be aware that many important wetland resolutions are to be considered at COP11, as well as the financing and hosting arrangements for the Convention Secretariat for the next triennium and beyond.

The Secretariat is leading the effort to raise financial support for delegates from developing countries to ensure representation at the meeting by all Parties. This support can take many different forms beyond the normal request for funds and could include, for example, a commitment to self-fund or to sponsor a "buddy" country.

Attached is a letter from the Ramsar Convention Secretary General opening the COP11 Fundraising Appeal. The Secretariat would be grateful for this letter to be forwarded to relevant departments and individuals in Contracting Party governments. Support and direction from Contracting Parties is vital to this appeal for funding in a difficult financial climate.

The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands respectfully requests that the content of the present Note be communicated to the competent national authorities and avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Permanent Mission of ----- the assurance of its highest consideration.
