Diplomatic notification 2008/1: Reminder of submission deadlines

18/01/2008

The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971) presents its compliments to the Permanent Mission of ... and has the honour to refer to the following dates and deadlines:

Submission of National Reports:

The Secretariat would like to remind Contracting Parties that the deadline for submission of National Reports is 31 March 2008. This will allow time for the Secretariat to complete its analyses of the status of implementation for circulation to the Parties in advance of the 10th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention (28 October-4 November 2008).

Contracting Parties are reminded that Reports should be submitted in electronic form, by e-mail or on a CD-ROM. The National Report is an official status report by each Contracting Party on its implementation of the Ramsar Convention and, as such, will be available to the public.

Submission of Draft Resolutions:

Contracting Parties wishing to submit Draft Resolutions for consideration by COP10 should send them to the Secretariat by 22 April 2008 at the latest. This is 40 days before the 37th Meeting of the Standing Committee (2-6 June 2008), the last Standing Committee Meeting that can approve such Draft Resolutions for COP10, in line with the Rules of Procedure adopted by COP9.

Submission of proposals for regional initiatives to be operated in the framework of the Convention during the triennium 2009-2011:

The Secretariat draws the attention of Contracting Parties to the requirement to submit information on regional initiatives in the framework of the Ramsar Convention that they are planning to undertake during the triennium 2009-2011.

Contracting Parties are invited to submit proposals for regional initiatives (including regional networks and regional centres for training and capacity building), ongoing or new, following the format provided with this note.

Based on the Guidelines for the development of regional initiatives (annexed to ResolutionVIII.30), in accordance with practice adopted prior to COP9 in 2005, proposals for regional initiatives to be endorsed by COP10 as operating within the framework of the Ramsar Convention should reach the Secretariat no later than 31 March 2008. This will allow time for analysis and submission to the 37th meeting of Standing Committee, 2-6 June 2008. The Standing Committee will take a decision on the list of regional initiative proposals to be submitted for endorsement and possible financial support by COP10. It is therefore important that the proposals follow strictly the format outlined in the attached form and reach the Secretariat in time for submission to the Standing Committee.

Contracting Parties are reminded that proposals for regional initiatives should be submitted in electronic form, preferably by e-mail or on a CD-ROM.

The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands respectfully requests that the content of the present note be communicated to the competent national authorities and avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Permanent Mission of ... the assurance of its highest consideration.
