Diplomatic notification 1998/10: Annual Contributions 1999
Annual Contributions 1999
The Bureau of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971) presents its compliments and has the honour to refer to the following:
With reference to the adoption by the 6th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (Brisbane, 1996) of the Convention budget and a revised scale of national contributions for the 1997-1999 triennium, the Bureau has prepared invoices for the payment of national contributions by Contracting Parties for the year 1999. Such an invoice, with explanatory information, is attached.
Contracting Parties will be aware that annual contributions to the Ramsar budget are calculated on the basis of the percentage contributions paid by Member States to the UN budget. Since annual contributions are due on 1 January of each calendar year, it is Bureau practice to issue invoices in November of the preceding year, as now. With the agreement of the Ramsar Standing Committee at its meeting from 19 to 24 October, the Bureau has issued invoices on the basis of the 1999 Ramsar budget figure of SFR 2,900,000 (as approved by the Brisbane Conference).
As in the past and according to the decision of the 6th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties, the invoices have been prepared in Swiss francs. Reflecting decision SC17.5 of the Standing Committee, Contracting Parties are therefore urged, whenever possible, to pay in Swiss francs. All Contracting Parties are encouraged to make their contributions promptly for the beginning of the calendar year 1999.
Contracting Parties are kindly asked to transfer their contributions to the Convention account with the bank UBS in Lausanne, Switzerland: Ramsar/IUCN Account Nos: 333.603.01.C. (SFR) or 333.603.60.R. (US$).
The Bureau of the Convention on Wetlands respectfully requests that the content of the present Note be communicated to the competent national authorities and avails itself of this opportunity to renew the assurance of its highest consideration.
