World Wetlands Day -- USA

Ohio State University, throught our Olentangy River Wetland Research Park (ORWRP), is listed as one of 3 international universities (the others are University of Florida and Charles Stuart University in Australia) who are partner institutions with the University of Botswana in the opening of an international symposium “Wetlands in a Flood Pulsing Environment: Effects on and responses in biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and human society” being held 1-5 February 2010 in Maun, Botswana. Two-hundred participants from 40 countries are participating in the symposium. A special ceremony is being held on Tuesday morning February 2, with proclamations and entertainment, to commemorate World Wetland Day. More details at http://www.orc.ub.bw/floodpulse/index.html

The Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park will host an open house on Tuesday February 2, 2010 in observance of International Wetland Day. Visitor are welcome to explore the facility and learn more about their current research. The wetlands are located at 352 West Dodridge Street just north of the main campus. The Olentangy River Wetland Research Park at OSU would like to announce the 2010 Rhonda and Paul Sipp Wetland Research Award. Competition for assistance for one graduate and one undergraduate student research project (funded at $1,000 and $500, respectively) at Ohio State Universities and those affiliated with our Ohio Center for Wetland and River Restoration. Deadline for proposal submission is March 19, 2010. Eligibility requirements and application procedures are summarized in the atttached document and at http://swamp.osu.edu/consortia/2010_Sipp_Wetland_Res.htm.
