The Nigerian Conservation Foundation joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Wetlands Day (WWD) on Friday February 2, 2007.
An outreach was organised in collaboration with conservation club members of the Atlantic Hall Epe to Oko Orisun a fishing community also in Epe Lagos State. Posters, Stickers and T-shirts were made in Pigin and Yoruba, the local language, to communicate the message of the day more effectively.
At the Atlantic Hall School, a presentation on the history of WWD and sustainable fishing was made by Ademola Ajajgbe, a Senior Conservation Officer with the NCF, and thereafter another presentation was made by the Director Technical Programmes Alade Adeleke to the fishing community in Yoruba, the local language. Mr Alade Adeleke emphasized the importance of the wetlands and the sustainable fishing practises.
The programme rounded up with a series of questions from the indigenes as they encouraged future collaboration with NCF in regards to educating them on wise use of their natural resources.
