World Wetlands Day in Zambia

Smart Mandolo P.G. Box 80389 Kabwe. Zambia.

22nd February, 2007.

We had successfully commemorated world wetland day on 2nd February, 2007 with the theme Fish for tomorrow. We celebrated in such a way that we had invited students and local people from various communities.

About 40 students and 30 local people participated in the event. We created awareness about the importance of wetlands such as:

  • Cultural Value
  • Recreation/Tourism
  • Water Purification
  • Reservoir of Biodiversity
  • Groundwater replenishment
  • Sediment and Nutrient retention etc.

We had a nice moment of which we appreciated so much for your assistance on latest posters, stickers and also for the video documentary (A22 - Minute Video, entitled, wetland, water and sustainability: The Ramsar convention on wetlands.) that we showed the participants during the commemoration. This really marked the significance of the event.

However, we really stressed more emphasis on the wise and sustainable use of wetlands in order to ensure them be remain in good condition for the betterment of the people.
