World Wetlands Day 2006 in Trinidad and Tobago


Buccoo Reef / Bon Accord Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site officially announced

Secretary for the THA Department of Agriculture, Marine Resources and the Environment, Mr. Hilton Sandy and President of Environment TOBAGO, Mrs. Patricia Turpin unveil the sign highlighting Buccoo Reef/ Bon Accord Lagoon as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. The unveiling was part of the World Wetlands Day Celebrations in Tobago. The sign is part of an eco-signage project undertaken by Environment Tobago with assistance from the THA Department of Natural Resources and is sponsored by BPTT.

World Wetland Day is celebrated every year on February 2nd. The Convention on Wetlands is and international treaty signed in the Iranian city of Ramsar in 1971, to promote the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands worldwide.
