World Wetlands Day 2004 -- India

We at Amritsar celebrated the world wetland day 2004 with the students of various institutes. The Department of Zoology organised a one day field trip to Harike on this day and Dr Anish Dua highlighted the importance of these ecosystems to all participants. The functions and values of wetlands in general were highlighted and the students were apprised with the status HARIKE LAKE (a Ramsar Site) and the good that it is doing in the region by purifying the water and supporting a huge biodiversity resource. The students of BBK Dav College Amritsar and of the Govt College Patti also participted in the celebrations. After the nature walk, an on the spot painting competition and the slogan writing competition were also organised. The winners and their entries shall be posted to you later when the judgement arrives. I shall try to send you the sscanned copies of the same. Some of the students indulged in photography and the sound(bird calls) recording also.
