World Wetlands Day 2003:

22/02/2003

Reported by Jolanta Gaczynska (jgaczynska@wp.pl), Warta Mouth NP, Poland

The celebration of World Wetland Day lasted eight days in Warta Mouth National Park this year!

02.02.2003 - Slides shows and lectures: "Warta Mouth National Park - a Ramsar Site" have taken place in Park's head office in Chyrzyno at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00.

03-11.02.2003 - Ecological workshops for schoolchildren "Why do we need wetlands?" have been organized. As many as twelve schools from local communes have participated.

We have also asked schoolchildren to help us to propagate the idea of World Wetland Day in their schools by making posters, newspapers etc. The prize was a spring bike trip through new Park teaching trail. Ten elementary schools from Kostrzyn, Dabroszyn, Kamien Wielki, Stare Dzieduszyce, Gorzyca, Czarnow and Zabice have taken a part in this venture. A Park committee has visited these schools to judged kids' work. If many children were involved and the news about WWD were really spread, the better note school obtained. The winner is the school from Dabroszyn! Congratulations!

The poster made by schoolchildren from Dabroszyn.

A few examples of posters made in local primary schools.
