World Wetlands Day 1998 in Kazakhstan
What is World Wetlands Day? At the 19th meeting of the Standing Committee, in late October 1996, World Wetlands Day was officially designated for 2 February of every year, the anniversary of the signing of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1971, as an opportunity for governments, organizations, and citizens to undertake big and small actions intended to raise public awareness of wetland values and benefits in general and the Ramsar Convention in particular.

Greetings for the International Day on Wetlands and Best Wishes for You in the blessed work of protection of the environment.
We were glad to celebrate this very solemn holiday for all biologists and to congratulate the collaborators of protected areas. We prepared the wall-paper [poster], devoted to this holiday for the Ministry cf Ecology and Natural Resources using your materials, poster, main points of the Ramsar Convention and articles of leading ornithologists of Kazakhstan. We also presented information into state mass-media (newspapers, Central radio)
We are glad to inform you that the preparation of Conference is close to its final. We arranged with our Minister and Ministry of Finance about support
The venue of Conference wilI be the city Kokshetau, that is placed in the northern part of Kazakhstan - 1300 km away from Almaty. Approximate term of conference is 5-10 September, 1998.
