World Wetlands Day 2008 -- UK -- Cotswold Water Park
Just to let you know that to celebrate World wetlands Day, we held a really successful Guided Walk around the lakes of the Cotswold Water Park (www.waterpark.org), an area of 147 lakes set within 40 square miles of old gravel workings.
More than 50 people attended, from age 4 to 74, and we had coverage in four local newspapers, four local radio stations plus a press photographer turned up on the day! The walk was led by Dr Simon Pickering, Director of Conservation for the Cotswold Water Park Society, and people who came on the walk were shown wetland habitats, learnt why they were so important and what we are doing here to encourage and protect them. Along the way we also saw smew, scaup, goosander, wigeon, lttle egret and herons. A brief news item about the walk is also posted on our website www.waterpark.org.
If you need any more information please let me know! But suffice to say we will be running this again next year!
PS we are also holding a Reedbeds for Wildlife conference here in the Cotswold Water Park on Friday Feb 15th - experts from all over the UK will be talking about how to create / design / manage reedbeds, and any publicity would be very welcome! I have attached a link to our website which gives details.
