Panamá toma acción legal para proteger Sitio Ramsar afectado por contrucción illegal de trocha

En el Sitio Ramsar, Humedal San San Pond-Sak en Panamá, se realizo una evaluación del impacto de la construcción de una trocha que interrumpió el flujo natural de agua hacia el humedal. El estudio incluyó monitoreo de parámetros químicos, físicos y biológicos. Se determinó que la construcción de la trocha era responsable del deterioro del humedal y que se debía eliminar dicha barrera física para detener los impactos negativos a la integridad y continuidad del ecosistema. El Administrador General de la Autoridad Nacional del Ambiente (ANAM) a través de la resolución No. AG 0334 del 24 de noviembre del 2000, y basado en la Ley No. 41 del 1 de julio de 1998 (Ley General del Ambiente), ordenó al responsable de la construcción de la trocha la remoción inmediata de la misma y la aplicación de medidas adecuadas que permitan mitigar el daño causado por el camino construido, para promover la recuperación del área afectada.

Panama takes legal action to protect Ramsar Site affected by construction of illegal path

An environmental impact assessment was completed for Ramsar Site San San Pond Sack in Golfo de Montijo, Panama to assess the impact of the construction of an elevated earth path that interrupted the natural flow of water to the wetland. The study, which included monitoring of chemical, physical and biological parameters, concluded that the path was responsible for the deteriorating conditions of the wetland and that it should be removed to reverse the negative impacts caused to the ecosystem. The General Administrator of the Panama National Environmental Authority (Autoridad Nacional del Ambiente - ANAM) through resolution No. AG 0334 and based on Law No. 41 of July 1, 1998 (General Law of the Environment), ordered the person responsible for the construction of the path to remove it immediately and to take the necessary actions to remediate the damage done.
