La sous-région d'Asie centrale et d'Asie de l'Ouest publie le «Communiqué de Téhéran» à l'occasion de la Journée mondiale des zones humides. Durant la réunion de la sous-région d'Asie centrale et d'Asie de l'Ouest, du 3 au 5 février, le ministère de l'Environnement de la République islamique d'Iran a organisé, le 3 février, la cérémonie du 31e anniversaire de la signature de la Convention, dans la ville de Ramsar. À cette occasion, lecture a été donnée du «Communiqué de Téhéran», rédigé par les participants à la réunion. Le Communiqué met en évidence des questions essentielles pour l'Asie centrale et l'Asie de l'Ouest concernant la conservation et l'utilisation des zones humides de la région. Pour Nick Davidson, la réunion fut un succès car elle a permis de mener des discussions animées et de trouver un consensus vigoureux sur des questions d'intérêt mutuel telles que les incidences graves, pour de nombreuses zones humides, de la sécheresse qui sévit dans la région et la priorité à donner à la coopération internationale à l'échelle régionale en ce qui concerne l'action relative aux zones humides et aux bassins hydrographiques transfrontières, au renforcement des capacités et à l'assistance apportée par les Parties aux pays voisins qui préparent leur adhésion à la Convention. Environ 60 participants, représentant des Parties contractantes, des pays qui ne sont pas Parties contractantes, des Organisations internationales partenaires et autres ONG nationales et régionales, des organisations internationales et les ministères de l'Environnement et des Affaires étrangères ont assisté à cette réunion qui s'est soldée par un succès total grâce à l'excellence de l'organisation locale des lieux et des dispositions prises pour la réunion. La couverture médiatique a été considérable avec, notamment, un passage aux nouvelles télévisées nationales. West and Central Asia subregion agrees "Tehran Communiqué" for World Wetlands Day. During the West and Central Asian Subregional Meeting, 3-5 February, the Department of the Environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran hosted, on 3 February, a celebration of the 31st anniversary of the signing of the Convention in its city of Ramsar, which included a reading of the "Tehran Communiqué" which had been agreed by the meeting's participants. The communiqué outlines key issues for West and Central Asia about the delivery of wetland conservation and wise use in the region. Nick Davidson reports that the meeting was most successful, with lively discussions and strong consensus on matters of common concern throughout the region, notably the severe impact on many wetlands of the persistent drought in the region, and the priority for international cooperation throughout the region, in relation to action on transboundary wetlands and river basins, capacity-building and assistance from Parties to their neighbouring countries who are working towards accession to the Convention. The meeting, attended by some 60 participants from Parties, non-Parties, International Organization Partners and other regional and national NGOs, international organizations and staff of the Department of the Environment and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was a success in no small part because of the excellent local organizing of venue and arrangements, and received considerable media attention including featuring on national television news.
